H01: Intro to Wildland Fire*

In this introduction to “Fire on the Tallgrass Prairie,” students will view a narrated slideshow that presents different types of fire on the tallgrass prairie along with typical tallgrass prairie plants and animals. This lesson should be used, at least in part, to insure that students are grounded in basic tallgrass prairie ecological concepts. Along with becoming acquainted with the historic and present distribution of the tallgrass prairie, students will develop an initial understanding of fire behavior and of fire’s importance as a disturbance in this ecosystem.
