PFTC Interagency Burn Plan Workshop

Summary:  This workshop will provide an opportunity to improve and refine burn plans.  Through content delivery, practical exercise, small group activity; participants will write new or edit existing burn plans building on principles discussed.  This will provide continuing education on burn plan preparation to improve collective understanding of prescribed fire plans, regardless of agency. Participants will receive credit for RT-300.

  • Opportunity to learn & work in a focused environment, free from distractions of the day job,
  • Acquire new skills, address specific challenges, or explore unique topics,
  • Access to Subject Matter Expert (SME) – help with fire behavior modeling and writing,
  • Collaboration and networking with peers, including 
  • Examples of good burn plans that can be used as templates,
  • Latest policy direction (NWCG and agency specific),
  • Tech review support (as time allows),
  • Practical knowledge and opportunity for participants to apply what they’ve learned

Intended Audience:

  • Interagency participants
    • (NGO, state, private, municipal, tribal, federal)
    • NWCG qualifications are NOT a pre-requisite for this course.
  • Burn Boss trainees
  • Newly qualified Burn Bosses
  • Burn plan writers
  • Line officers (Agency Administrators)
  • Fuels Technicians, Fuels Specialists, and Fire Management Officers

Timeline:

  • Outreach and application:  October 15 – November 12th @ 1100 PM Mountain time
  • Selection:  Notifications by November 20th
  • Workshop dates:  January 13th-17th, 2025

Where:  Multi-hub synchronous delivery with in-person gatherings at each Hub:

  • California:  Redding, CA
  • Intermountain area:  Boise, ID
  • Rocky Mountain area: Fort Collins, CO
  • Eastern area:  Marquette, MI
