SUMMARY:Boone Co Prep & Spot Fire Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn to Prep Workshop \nSaturday will be spent learning about the various methods of prep in both grass fields\, in the woods\, and around structures and the best practices for implementing them! Bonus content: Defensible Space Practices for Structures!\nWe’ll demonstrate:\n\n\nMower Lines\nBlower Lines\nDisk Lines (good and not so good!)\nPrepping Around Structures\nBlacklining (burning out an area ahead of time to deepen control lines – if weather permits)\n\nSpot Fire Workshop\nSunday will be the exciting live fire Spot Fire Suppression course\, as seen at Shaw Nature Reserve and Collins this past spring.\nParticipants will learn:\n\n\nSafety on the Fireline\nThe Wildland Fire Triangle: Fuels\, Weather\, Topography/Review of Basic Fire Behavior\nSpot Fire Size-Up and Communication\, Requesting Assistance\nProper Use of Hand Tools\, Leaf Blowers\, and Backpack Pumps in Fire Suppression\n“Direct Attack” Suppression Strategies\nPutting it all Together: LIVE FIRE\, participants will fight “spot fires” lit and supervised by cadre within the burn unit we prepped Saturday!\n\n\nAs these are LIVE FIRE events\, participants will need to bring & wear: \n\n\n\nLeather boots (leather hiking or work boots are ideal)\nLong pants – NATURAL (cotton/denim) or FLAME-RESISTANT (Nomex\, etc)  fibers ONLY!\nLong sleeve shirt – NATURAL or FLAME-RESISTANT fibers ONLY!\nLeather work gloves (preferably mid-heavy duty) – NO “mechanix”-type gloves!\n\nEye protection (safety glasses/goggles) is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED! Keeping smoke/embers out of your eyes is a good thing – a couple pair of safety glasses will be available to borrow.\n \n\nQuestions?
